Kungfumation

Haven't posted in a while but I definitely haven't stopped drawing.  Here's another Kungfu motion test.  I love those moments in Kungfu movies where two fighters do a series of moves and stances to demonstrate their style before attacking.  Completely useless in a real fight but I can't help but geek out when they're done well.  Thought I'd try to animate one of those moments to work on my timing.  Prob won't clean this up any time soon.

I think the toughest part about animating these moves is combining speed and clarity.  The transitions between strikes and stances have to be clear, smooth and pack some force.  I guess that's the case with anything you animate but it's taking a lot of trial and error with this kungfu stuff.  You can see I started numbering out my drawings and using timing charts but abandoned it once I started breaking stuff down and redrawing poses.  A nice chunk of the final product came from feeling things out. I'm aspiring to get to a point where I can understand the movements enough to efficiently plot out the poses and timing in the beginning.
